Redesign concept for Airbnb

Airbnb is the world's most recognized platform for travelers to rent a place quickly, cheaply, and conveniently.

We know that many Internet users are increasingly focusing on their personal experiences when using such well-known services. That's why our team took the risk to accept a new challenge and update the Airbnb app design.

Challenge #1
NeoBank should provide the best UX design that can satisfy users with different demographics and lifestyles.
Challenge #2
NeoBank was seeking a new vision of banking services. It should not be too formal but not too fancy either.
Challenge #3
The Client had a limited timeframe and scheduled investors pitch also, so deadlines were really important.

About the Client

No matter how popular your app is, the digital world is growing by leaps and bounds, and you should regularly check how to provide your users with modern and creative solutions to their problems.

Our team's main goal was to update the UI/UX design for the Airbnb application to keep up with the latest trends and community expectations. As they say, the world is changing, and we're keeping up with it.

Challenge #1
We wanted to enrich Airbnb's visualization and give the application a more modern and refreshing look while emphasizing its brand identity.
Challenge #2
It is not a secret that when selecting an application, users pay attention not only to attractive design but also to usability. Therefore, we devoted much time to UX development, enhancing app functionality, and solving user-related problems.
Challenge #3
We draw inspiration and look for new ideas among similar applications in the same industry, conduct competitor research and perform numerous interviews with users. Next, based on the collected data, we generate creative ideas and new approaches for design solutions.

Solutions

1
Quality UX research
NeoBank was looking for innovative solutions for future customers. In order to solve their needs and pains, we had to collect and analyze as much information about them as possible.
2
Design process
The product had to be created from scratch. The founders came to ANODA only with an idea. We clearly structured all processes and discussed the scope of tasks.
3
Modern Interface
We were challenged to provide a simple and user-friendly interface making people's life easier. This financial app should not look too formal like most competitors' designs.

Solutions

1
Competent team
We have assembled a team of professionals who are open to new challenges. They are experienced designers who offer outstanding solutions!
2
Quality UX research
We always start with a thorough UX study. During this stage, we highlight all the pain points and needs of the travel apps' target audience. This information helps us to create relevant and convenient design solutions for users.
3
Design process
Redesigning is just as demanding a task as creating a design from scratch. We always achieve the best results due to a well-structured design workflow.

Scope of Work

Airbnb has been providing the best services to travelers worldwide for years. To make a high-quality redesign for this app, we had to perform a lot of work with such steps as idea generation, UX research, customer interviews, creating wireframes, user journey maps, and much more.

Project Scoping

For starters, we adapted our design process to the tasks performed during this project. We also had to plan a time estimate for each app design stage to save money and time.

Generation of ideas

While generating ideas, we sought inspiration from popular travel apps, social media, and other platforms. It was crucial for us to make the Airbnb design comfortable for the human eye, with a pleasant color scheme and intuitive UX.

UX Research

We started with extensive competitor research. Then, we investigated top travel and booking apps and startups offering a new approach to similar platforms. Thanks to UX research, we concluded that the main problem of travel apps is their complexity and poor UI design.

Customer interview

The next step was user interviews. We talked to different demographic groups since the app had to be user-friendly for everyone.

UI Design

After the UX research, the team worked on the visual user experience. Based on previously created wireframes, we elaborated the interface in detail, selected colors, pictures, animations, illustrations, etc., and added them to the pages.

Scope of Work

The founders of NeoBank spent more than a year looking for an agency that would help them with design and development. They understood that they were too busy with other projects and would not be able to devote much time to NeoBank. They needed a team that would also be inspired by their idea and work on it independently enough.

Brief filling

First of all, we asked NeoBank to fill out a brief. In it, the founders write in detail about their vision of the future product, its main competitors, its mission and values, and also provided examples of services that inspired them.

Project Scoping

We also realized that there is a very large scope of work ahead. We had to develop the product from scratch. Therefore, we started with clear planning, structuring of tasks, and estimation by time.

Product Design

The main advantage of NeoBank is the emphasis on outstanding user experience. In order to achieve the best deliverables, we had to find out all the needs of the target audience to provide the best product solutions.

Back-end & Front-end Development

The platform had to quickly process a large amount of data, deliver a variety of financial features and allow users to easily access any necessary information.

Native Mobile Development

Since NeoBank wanted to offer its users the most convenient fintech solutions, its founders immediately decided to start with an application.

Ideation & Evaluation

We had to focus on providing the best user experience and a new UI design for the app. Therefore, we conducted a team brainstorming session to analyze trends and ideas and find the best ways to implement them.

We started with a big meeting where our team was able to learn more about the project and ask all their questions.

User flow

After analyzing the results of the UX research, we started working on the User Journey Map. At this stage, it was essential to ensure that users easily navigate between the app features and reach their goals. Much attention was paid to ensuring that the app performed equally great on different smartphones.

We were looking for inspiration by observing modern new travel and booking app designs. This way, we could generate fresh ideas that will allow the app to demonstrate that it keeps up with the times and is open to new technologies. Our Airbnb design translates this through every interface element.

Next, our design team started working on the travel app user interface. We wanted to create a convenient, structured application that would be easy to navigate, even for first-time users. People should not get confused with app data; they can confidently check apartments or hotels, adjust the appropriate price range, use the calendar, chat with hosts, and so forth.

7

Final version

We have developed 3 style options for the Airbnb interface. We usually send them to clients so that they can choose their favorite option. This time, we discussed these three options during a team meeting, had a brainstorming session, and decided on one option for the application design.

8

UI Design

Based on the previously created wireframes, we designed the application interface in detail, choosing a bright palette with pastel pink accents, adding animations and illustrations. Fonts play an essential role in interface perception. They have to convey the overall brand vibe and tone of voice. So we decided to choose the Heebo font.

Project planning & Zero sprint

After the design was completed, we took time for new planning in the development team. Developers also needed to discuss the technical requirements for the project and choose technological solutions.

Web & Mobile Development

Our team recommended using React.js on the front end, Node.js on the backend, and Swift to build the app. The development was based on 2-week sprints to ensure the right level of flexibility, maximum value, and a constant feedback loop.

Final QA / Testing

Each stage of development is tested, so we are confident in the quality of the delivered product. After we finish working on it, we also do Final QA to make sure it's perfect.

Feature #1
Homepage
The first thing the user sees when entering the application is the Homepage, the most important part of the application, which should be clear and make a pleasant impression. So we came up with a modern, clean and intuitive Home page that allows users to access everything they need. Navigation is intuitive, and the overall design looks nice and discreet.

Feature #2
More convenient search
The search page is always a headache. We had to create a lightweight, user-friendly, and not too overloaded Ul. Our team solved this problem by dividing customer needs with several quick filters. With the updated search page, users can find whatever they need.
Feature #3
Improved booking process
Here comes the fun part - booking. So you found your dream accommodation and need to know everything about it! The challenge is to show all the required information on a single page and not overload it visually. We designed a really appealing interface with data visualization so you won't get lost in the app!
Feature #4
Communications and notifications
Chat is no less a critical option for travel and booking apps. Therefore, our team found the best design solutions to update the messaging and notifications page interface. They made it more user-friendly and readable for both hosts and travelers.
